Usage

The module includes its own content type called Video. You can use that or you can add the Video part to any content type according to your specific needs.

Part settings

You can set global settings of the Video part for each content type that it is used on.
You can reach the settings page via the Dashboard menu: choose Content Types then click Edit for the content type you want to use and then expand the Video panel.

Available settings:

Thumbnail Format - the format of the thumbnail images that will be generated for the video.
Default Thumbnail Width - the width of the generated thumbnail images in pixels.
Default Thumbnail Height - the height of the generated thumbnail images in pixels.
Default Thumbnail Count - this is how many images will be generated for each video. If you set the count to be larger than 1, the preview thumbnail will use rotating images.

Streams - here you can specify how many streams you would like to have for each video and their properties - Width (px), Height (px) and Bitrate (bit/s)

Default Player Width - video player width in pixels
Default Player Height - video player height in pixels

Creating video content

There are two ways to create video content. You can upload a video file and have it automatically converted to the Smooth Streaming formats by Expression Encoder or you can upload a zip file that includes pre-formatted Smooth Streaming video files and thumbnails.

Convert on the server

If you want to convert your videos on the server, you need to have Microsoft Expression Encoder Pro. Refer to the Requirements page for details.
Expression Encoder supports the following file formats: .3g2, .3gp, .asf, .avi, .avs, .dv, .dvr-ms, .ismv, .m2v, .m4v, .mod, .mov, .mov, .mpeg, .mpg, .mts, .m2ts, .ts, .vob, .wmv, .wtv, .xesc. For some of them there might be additional requirements, refer to the Expression Encoder manual for additional information.

Upload already converted files

If you want to convert your files locally and then upload them to the server you have to prepare a zip file with the following content:
  • The .ism file
  • The .ismc file
  • The .ismv files - one for each stream
  • One or more image files that will be used for thumbnails

The thumbnail images must be of the same size and one of the following formats: .jpg, .png, .gif. If there is more than one image, they will be rotated in an alphabetical order so name the files accordingly.
